As spring transitions into summer, May has been a month filled with sunshine, friendship, achievement, and memorable experiences at Ashley Gardens Care Home in Eastbourne

Garden Quiz & Lollies

The recent spell of sunny weather allowed residents to spend plenty of time outdoors in our beautiful garden. From participating in our popular garden quiz to enjoying refreshing ice creams and social gatherings, everyone embraced the opportunity to relax, connect, and enjoy the fresh air. The garden became a hub of activity, laughter, and friendly conversation

Birthday Corner

We were delighted to celebrate the birthdays of three wonderful residents – Pam, Brenda, and Rita. Each celebration reflected the personal preferences of our residents, whether spending quality time with family, Brenda enjoyed a wonderful morning outing with her son, making special memories together before returning to the home to continue her celebrations and Pam and Rita chose to celebrating with fellow residents and staff within the home. These occasions remind us how important it is to make every birthday meaningful and memorable.

Monthly Knit and Natter Group!

Our monthly knit and natter group continues to be a great success, bringing together residents and their relatives for an enjoyable afternoon of knitting, chatting, and friendship

Suni and resident Jean could be seen deep in conversation, quietly whispering to each other about different types of wool and knitting needle. Whilst, Gill was delighted to show everyone the progress she had made with her knitting project. Activities like these help create a warm and supportive community atmosphere within the home.

Freddo’s Visit

Trip to ESK

This month, Brian enjoyed a lovely afternoon out with Jean and Rachel, who accompanied him on a shopping trip to ESK. He thoroughly enjoyed getting out and about and browsing the shops. On his return, Brian expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you, ladies, for taking me out. I really enjoyed it and appreciate your effort.” It was wonderful to see how much the outing meant to him.

While Jean and Rachel were purchasing some items for the garden lounge, Brian was keen to lend a helping hand. He proudly carried a lemon plant pot for the garden, enjoying the opportunity to contribute and be involved in choosing items that would enhance the outdoor space for everyone at the home. 😊

One-to-One Activities

At Ashley Gardens, we recognise that one-to-one activities are just as important as our group sessions. These personalised activities give residents the opportunity to pursue their individual interests, enjoy meaningful conversations, and spend quality time. Brian has been busy working on a jigsaw puzzle, and he started it with Sheila. After two days of dedication and concentration, he successfully completed the puzzle and was delighted with the finished result. He was especially proud and asked us to share a photograph of his completed masterpiece with his family

While other residents were participating in group activities, Buster spent some relaxing time colouring, an activity he greatly enjoys. Creative activities such as colouring can be both calming and rewarding, helping residents to express themselves and relax.

Celebrating our Latest Achievement

We are proud to announce that Ashley Gardens proudly received a Certificate of Achievement for successfully completing the Infection Prevention and Control Champion Accreditation.  This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of infection prevention and control, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for everyone living, visiting, and working within our home. In addition, team members Madel and Mark both have successfully achieved Infection Prevention and Control Champion Level 2 Certificate for 2025-2026. These accomplishments reflect our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of care, safety, and professional development and excellence in care.

And by staying up to date with best practices in infection prevention and control, we can continue to provide the highest quality care and support for our lovely residents.

Surprise Morning Coffee at WeWa Café

With the recent spell of lovely weather, we thought it would be nice to surprise our residents with a spontaneous morning outing. Sometimes the simplest surprises bring the biggest smiles!

Just five minutes away from Ashley Gardens is WeWa Café, the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing morning coffee. Residents enjoyed coffee, delicious treats, and a change of scenery while making the most of the beautiful weather. Simple outings such as these bring excitement, social connection, and enjoyment to everyday life.

Buggy Pants Ball Game

Our residents recently enjoyed taking part in a brand-new activity introduced by Sue, and it quickly became one of the highlights of the month!

The Buggy Pants Ball Game brought plenty of smiles, laughter, and excitement as residents took turns aiming and throwing soft balls towards the target. With Sue sporting her special "buggy pants," the activity added a fun and light-hearted twist that had everyone eager to join in.

The game encouraged gentle physical activity, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and teamwork, while also fostering friendly competition among residents. It was wonderful to see everyone supporting and cheering each other on, creating a lively and positive atmosphere throughout the session.

Most importantly, the activity brought people together, promoting social interaction and creating joyful memories. A huge thank you to Sue for introducing such a creative and entertaining activity that was enjoyed by residents and staff alike.

Staff of the Month

Congratulations to Susan, who was voted Staff of the Month by residents and visitors. Her kindness, patience, and willingness to help others were frequently mentioned, making her a deserving recipient of this recognition. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and compassion shown by all our team members every day
